John Pavlovitz Interviews Charles Toy, Founder of The Christian Left

John Pavlovitz is a progressive Christian "author, pastor, activist, and storyteller." He recently sat down with our Founder, Charles Toy. Both men are in the trenches every day in the spiritual battle against the false teachings of The "Christian" Right and "Christian" Nationalism.

This is a powerful and engaging discussion you don't want to miss.

​Charles tells the history behind his founding of The Christian Left in 2009. John and Charles discuss the status of Progressive Christianity, or as Charles puts it, "just Christianity," or "Jesus Christianity." They discuss the future of the movement, and what people of like minds can do to spread the Good News and stay positive.

These two gentlemen believe the Christian Church in the US has lost its way. Charles calls what we have today "The Religion of Empire." They both agree that The "Christian" Right was created, bought and paid for by dark money, and that it exists to cultivate power and political influence. The problem is they left Jesus and his teachings out of their equation, which means it's just another cult. They will pay lip service to slogans like "Jesus Saves," but they view his actual teachings as "woke, liberal propaganda." They cry "Lord! Lord! ...," but they don't seem to know Jesus or value the things he taught. It's profoundly sad. So many are hoodwinked by false teachers and the lure of political power.

It turns out money can buy a religion, and that's what's happened over the last 50 years in the United States.

(Endnote: The "Christian" Right uses "Abortion and Gay Marriage" as an excuse for everything they do. Both are obscure topics in the Bible and they are misunderstood and misinterpreted. Abortion isn't even mentioned in the New Testament. It's mentioned in the Old Testament in Numbers 5:11-22, where instructions are given for a procedure that "causes the womb to miscarry." The right will debate this, but that's what it says. Whatever they say is their biased opinion on the matter. No one likes abortion, but we're not OK with women bleeding out in ERs or being arrested for having a miscarriage either. Roe needs to be enshrined with legislation. Women's healthcare rights aren't negotiable.)
